EIC Client Prepared closes $1.8 million seed raise
Although the pandemic is on our minds these days, we should not forget about another pandemic that has been infecting our schools. In 2018, a school shooting occurred once every 8 school days. The average response time by first responders was 18 minutes, while the average school shooting took 12.5 minutes. First responders are currently only there for the aftermath. In Parkland, it took school administrators over 3 minutes and 30 seconds to initiate a “code red,” while the shooting itself was just over 6 minutes. For most of the shooting, students, teachers, and administrators were scrambling trying to obtain more information. Fire alarms were also initiated creating more confusion.
Every second during a shooting is crucial; yet the communication tools in schools are outdated and slow.
Our policy makers have failed to address this issue. Instead, it took a group of brilliant students -- the founders of Prepared, our client -- to come up with a solution, one that we expect to have a profound impact.
This is why we have supported Prepared from its start. Congratulations to the founders on this raise. It's also a win for the Yale startup ecosystem -- and for schools across the country.
